In 1991, Anand Mahindra was appointed the Managing Director of Mahindra Ugine Steel Company, a subsidiary of the Mahindra Group. Under his leadership, the company grew significantly and became one of the largest producers of specialty steel in India.

In 1997, Anand Mahindra became the Vice Chairman of the Mahindra Group and played a crucial role in the group's diversification into new business areas, such as information technology, hospitality, and finance.

In 2003, Anand Mahindra was appointed the Deputy Chairman of the Mahindra Group and took over as the Chairman in 2012. As the Chairman, he has focused on transforming the group into a global player by expanding its presence in international markets and investing in research and development.
